The Trades Union International of Workers in the Building, Wood, Building Materials and Allied Industries UITBB, which organises in its ranks millions of workers in the construction sector around the world, expresses its solidarity to the Roofers Union in California, USA, for the unjust arrest of its GS Cliff Smith. Comrade Smith was arrested by the authorities along with 53 other comrades for defending the rights of the workers in a well-known multinational supermarket company, for their rights which arise from the relevant labour laws.
We salute the militant actions of Comrade Cliff Smith and the other comrades, and we condemn the unacceptable stance of the authorities against the workers who are fighting for their rights.
We stand by your side, comrades, in all your class-based struggles for the rights of the workers and we express the certainty that your fights will never go to waste and they will be vindicated.
