16th UITBB Conference, 15-17 April, Montevideo, Uruguay

Solidarity resolution with FTCCP

Participants in the 16th International Conference of UITBB declare:
We condemn the killings of labor leaders of the Federation of Construction Workers of Peru FTCCP.
Considering that:
During the regime of the Aprista government, President Alan García Pérez created favorable conditions for unsocial elements and criminals to organize, in order to divide the class based trade union movement, organized in the CGTP and FTCCP and opposed to handing over of national resources and to the greed of foreign capital.
The failure of the neoliberal capitalist model imposed by the Fujimori dictatorship and big multinational capital, has accelerated criminal attacks against class based organizations that were able to defend the right to unionize and to collective bargaining by branch; that dark forces at the service of reaction have launched a escalation of crime, resulting in the hideous murder of 12 leaders of the Federation of Construction Workers of Peru.
THE UITBB resolves to:
Demand from the government of President Ollanta Humala effective measures to stop the escalation of criminal violence against labor leaders of the Federation of Construction Workers of Peru FTCCP. It demands from government to intensify the investigation of criminal acts and the lawful conviction of the masterminds and perpetrators.
Express full solidarity with comrade Mario Huamán Rivera, general secretary of the Federation of Construction Workers of Peru FTCCP and of the General Confederation of Workers of Peru CGTP, as well as with all workers in Peru.
