p3152290

p3152242On the occasion of the meeting of the UITBB Secretariat at the headquarters in Helsinki, John Sutton, UITBB President visited one of the largest construction sites of the moment in Finland, the future Musiikkitalo (Palace of Music) in the Finnish capital, where he met the workers, accompanied by Manu Kivisaari, principal shop steward of the SRV group (prime contractor or project manager) and Teuvo Keurakoski, the OHS delegate.

He spoke to workers on safety issues at work, on the rights that it is important to recognize to migrant workers and on the dangers of rising xenophobia, on the threats lurking over collective rights as well as over workers’ health and well-being deriving from  the transformation of the employee into a bogus self-employed.

p3152295

He stressed the importance of active solidarity and unity of action between employees and unions of various countries to repel the frontal attack carried out in the context of the current global crisis by employers and governments against the wage earners’ rights and entitlements.

p3152258During his visit to Finland he also met the leadership of the Carpenters' Union of Helsinki as well as Kyösti Suokas, 2nd President of Rakennusliitto, the Finnish Federation of Construction Workers.
